Windows Live Writer Review – Posting into Wordpress.com

Configuration of your weblog:

I could not find any desktop icon created for WLW. In order to launch your windows live writer, click on Start=>Programs=>Windows Live Writer (Beta). This should launch your Windows Live Writer. Before we go ahead with the configuration of WLW, I would like to mention about Onfolio which is sidebar tool which gets added to your Internet Explorer. Onfolio lets you copy contents from the pages you are browsing and lets you blog them. It also has a feed reader. Read more about Onfolio here.

Lauch the Windows Live Writer

If this is the first time you are launching WLW, then a wizard appears to guide you through the configuration.

Do you want to create a Windows Live Spaces account ?

You can create the Windows Live Spaces right here, if you don’t have one. But if you already have an Windows Live account or if you would like to configure your blog service (in our case, wordpress.com), then click next.

Choose another blog service option to configure

Since I would like to configure my blog http://mohasin.wordpress.com, I am selecting “Another weblog service” and clicking next.

Enter your wordpress home page login details

Now enter the weblog URL, the user name and password that I normally use for logging into this account.
Select the weblog provider from the list.

List of blog providers

List of blog providers - continued

Now select the service provider from the list. In our case, we would be selecting Wordpress.com. As you could see, WLW seems to be supporting most of the famous blogging services. Now this a really nice move from Microsoft folks to make the tool popular.

Selecting wordpress.com from the list

The Remote posting URL for your weblog should be shown properly. You need not edit anything except for the name of your blog. In my case, I had to enter mohasin before .wordpress.com/xmlrpc.php

Select your blog from the list of blogs available in your account.

Now the next screen should list out all the multiple blogs that one holds in his account. In my case, I had two accounts which are displayed in the above screenshot.

Applying the settings and fetching the details from the provider

Select the account which you would like to setup and click next. Not to worry, you can setup your other blogs under your account after launching the WLW.

Weblog configuration complete

The configuration is now done and on click Finish, the WLW will be launched.

The editior options and the creation, editing and posting of the new post on to this blog is explained in Part 3
